Several photos of sandhill cranes (grus canadensis) taken at the Bosque del Apache wildlife refuge which is south of Albuquerque, near the white sands missile range in New Mexico.
I cropped the second photo, but the rest are full frame images. Not bad for the (relatively) inexpensive Nikkor 70-300 I own. I saw a lot of very expensive glass while there – dozens of photographers with lenses that stretched over a foot in length. The kind of lens you attach to the tripod, and the camera just hangs from the lens.
How do they carry those things? I should have taken a picture of some of them.
Sounds like a little “lens envy”! LOL Nice shots James!

heh… maybe a little. I actually only regretted not thinking to rent one. I wouldn’t turn it down if someone offered me a free 400mm f/2, but just couldn’t imagine justifying the cost.
I would have liked to see the pictures of the other cameras, too.
You really got a good camera and lenses. You can still have the best shots even at a distance.

Really nice photos! like the one with the silhouettes the best.
Nice capture! I like the 1st one the most. The stretched wings of the bird was beautifully captured. It’s quite difficult for my end to capture a moving object and you’ve done it best. You are indeed a photographer James.
its a beautiful scenery, the shot is vivid and full of details

good times. thanks for the pics
wish we could add sound, I love the noise they make when flying overhead.
Those are nice photos.. It seems that those are real and I had a great time looking at them. I also tried to capture a flying bird but it doesn’t seem to be as beautiful as what you did. I guess I should try it next time and hopefully I will have a better result. LOL.. Thanks for sharing these photos. Good day!

photographs were taken at shorter camera focal length and downslope ..
Great pics.

The 3rd and 4th pictures are my favorite…amazing! So lovely. I really like pictures with water involved, the reflections and surface of the water always fascinate me.
