We have a room in our house with lots of windows – it gets very cold in there during the winter, but the rest of the year it’s quite nice. I’ve been painting the ceiling in there for what seems like forever… but it’s finally done. Now to paint the walls, the window trim, take out the fireplace, put in a new floor, reinstall the fireplace, hang new doors, build a new step, stain the doors, install new baseboard, paint the baseboard…
I think I need a nap just thinking about it.
will this post?…. ?

I scrolled down to “paying the bills” and was interested in Wildlife Workshops. If I were independently wealthy and had nothing else going on, I’d take one of those workshops even tho I’m not a photography. The Birds of Prey in Idaho this fall looks fabulous!!
And I like your painting picture too
That is why I leave such things to professionals. I remember remodeling my mom’s den, and I feel like it took forever. To this day, I still know I missed a spot on the ceiling- but I gave up. Good luck!

That is a great shot – very inventive and what’s the word for it – intuitive. It is just great -really clever and warm and friendly. I could go on, because I think it really hits the spot – it’s so engaging.

Don’t forget the decor!
Guess you have the rest of the year taken up! How long did it take you to finish the ceiling? I would take Ava’s advice and leave it to the pros. Unless you have time and stick to this “small” list. Please tell me you have someone helping you..?
This is realy annoying whne you start repairing or refresh something then you find out that there is much more things to do and sometimes it becomes twice or even much more longer than you established.
Great image, would be a good one for a DIY store to use for its advertising. Love the roller in the light.

Don’t worry. I’m the same way with completing our basement. It used to just have our washer and dryer, but my husband wants to convert it to a playroom for our kids. It’s completed with flooring and installation, but I’m lagging on the paint, decor, and lighting. Reading this has given me motivation to spend the weekend on it. I can only stare at it for so long right?
Too true! I need to get back in there myself…
Whoa! Talk about DIY projects! That is one big list of things to do. I could never do all that. I think the most I could do is paint the walls, and that’s only because that seems the most fun, especially if you ask friends to help. Other than that, I’d either call professionals for the rest or leave it up to my boyfriend and the other macho men to handle it!
At the rate I’m going, I’ll never finish this room, either. :-p
Thank you for the photo and the word picture. Your room seems like a nice place to relax and meditate in. Maybe you can paint the windows with different colors and when the sun comes out, the room gets shone by different colors. Just a little idea.
You made a great piece as usual! I truly appreciate it, for me it is hard to capture a certain thing in a great shot! I don’t have a talent when it comes to photography but if you will be my mentor I will probably no doubt to enter.

Did any of those changes help to keep the heat in during the winter?
So far, it seems to be helping… but it hasn’t been bitterly cold yet, so I’d say it’s still early.
Haha, one step at a time! I easily get overwhelmed sometimes, then I tell myself to just take it day by day or step by step, even slow and steady wins the race. Is all of what you wanted to accomplish done by now?
Sadly… no.
It looks like people whose in the church, and it was taken very clearly. All is great as usual James! Continue doing great, keep it up!

I am interested in finding out what kind of lighting you used to capture this shot. It is a great photograph, but I imagine the lighting was tricky to get a somewhat clear outline of the person against the backdrop. Looking forward to hearing how you accomplished this.

It’s back-light with two bare 500 watt halogen bulbs – a work light, the kind you buy at a hardware store. The subject is in between the lights and the camera, with the lights pointed directly at the camera, creating a nice dark shadow. The photo was taken after dark, so it was very black outside where I took the picture.
