Ring of Fire

flaming gnome catcher

The family is asleep, and I have a Gnome-be-Gone, a coconut, and a canister of kerosene.

Where are the matches…

I fell in to a burning ring of fire.
I went down, down, down
and the flames went higher.
And it burns, burns, burns
the ring of fire,
the ring of fire.

Darling… snoozefest. It makes you sound like a creepy man to have the lyrics at the bottom. Please tell everyone this was an entry for the scavenger hunt and not your original idea. It lessens the creepy factor. xoxo

  2. Haha! It took me a minute to figure out what was going on, but the Gnome-be-Gone soon became evident. If you’re shooting in RAW, perhaps you could bump up the fill light just a tad in the “face” area? Regardless, another nice shot!

    Is the gnome-be-gone now a barbecued gnome-be-went?

And is that the cheering of traditional garden gnomes I hear faintly?

I find that my most favorite photos and artworks are those that involve fire and water. Really are the natural elements. Clouds or flying leaves can make for a good replacement for air in photos for me :D I like those stuff as well.

Ryan - sorry to say, I already did tweak the fill light (up to 27), but felt taking it much further took away from the other dark portions of the image. I could put a mask on the face and just adjust that, I suppose.

David - “Gnome-be-went” has to be my favorite line of the day. :-D

  8. James,

Good photo, did you have long exposure on this. The effect is great, looks similar to long exposure on rivers. Keep up the great work.

Almost looks like a monster arising from the flames. Gives me some ideas to experiment with flames.
