You know the story about a frog in a pot of water? The way… if you put a frog in a pot, and slowly turn up the heat, the frog won’t hop out until the water boils, and it’s too late. Dead frog.
The proverb is intended to illustrate that, if you are in a situation that is steadily worsening, and you don’t do anything about it, you’re finished. Claire and I were discussing this story the other day, and I said that it would make a great photo. “We should catch a frog,” I said.
Later that day, whilst mowing the lawn, Claire started shouting at me. I couldn’t understand what she was saying over the noise of the lawn mower, so she started signaling me. Like this:
Okay, that was fun. I was wearing rubber boots - good thing, as the frog hopped into the wetland, and I hopped in after it.
Turns out, that story? It’s not true. The frog hopped out of the pot several times… and I only turned the burner on for one picture, and then just because the frog was not in the pot, and I wanted some red in the photo. After being a truly good sport and having its photo taken for about five minutes, we took the frog back outside and set it free.
Here is the full set of photos:
too fun!!!! esp love the video of the hand signals
It does sort of play with my thot that frogs are green, tho - is he part chameleon? maybe that’s why he kept hopping out of the pot…. He was certainly very cooperative and patient, glad he’s back in his own locale
But the greater Q is: are you as smart as the frog? or, thoughtfully and realistically, are some pots (cracked?) just to be endured……
lol pfy cimb pb ugh & etc

Hehee. Funny. Interesting too. The story and the photos flow in a synergy. Very cool. Love those photos.

You asked me once about the lens that was used to make a photo of a green snake. Unfortunately I do not know the details. But I know the name of the photographer. It is Jon Sullivan
take care, Martyna
For anyone else, here’s where to find that snake photo (it’s gorgeous!). Martyna was writing a nice piece on fear, and all I could do was talk about the great photo! 😛
The frog and saucepan picture has really lifted my mood today. So glad I found your site. Keep it up!
