Freelance Whales in Boston

Last night I got to go see the Freelance Whales in Waltham (just outside of Boston, MA).

The Freelance Whales are: Judah Dadone, Doris Cellar, Kevin Read, Chuck Criss, and Jacob Hyman.

Strongly encouraged: Scroll down a touch and watch the slide show. More strongly encouraged: check out their music. They are my favorite band currently, and if my iPod had grooves, I would have worn them out by now.

The Freelance Whales played Chums at Castle Dormitory, Brandeis University, Waltham, Massachusetts. If you haven’t heard their music, head over to their web site and take a listen (they stream some MP3s). Then go buy the album! I love this disc… it’s called Weathervanes, and I purchased it on iTunes before it was available on CD. Worth every penny.

Most of these shots were taken with my 50mm 1.8D fully open at f/1.8, ISO 3200 (thus the image noise), and a shutter speed of around 1/80. The room was very dimly lit, so I did what I had to do to get anything to show up.

Seems like a really cool band. I’ll be sure to watch out for them if they come by my way. I have found that recently I am liking bands that I don’t immediately listen to.

Good band, I like their sound but I don’t think it’s really my kind of thing. It’s cool to find a good band and pass on the recommendations to others though, it’s a great way to help talented people get recognition. And speaking of recognition, that guy in the picture with the glasses on looks mega familiar….

I love bands like this. My friends play in a similar sounding band here in CA. Where did you find them?

This is the first time that I’ve heard of Freelance Whales and I really like their music! It’s bands like this that eventually blow up because of their loyal fan base.

  5. I just went to their site and I like their music- definitely my style. Thanks for sharing this!
