Fauna

Photographs of animals, pets, bugs, et cetera. You know… fauna.

New Mexico Road

I have posted other photos from New Mexico, as I have family there and find my way there more than anywhere else I travel. This was from a trip to the Land of Enchantment in March, and I went for a six mile run outside of Taos. As you can see, I pretty much had […]

Cocoons

There was a recent Radiolab podcast called Black Box that talked about cocoons – worth a listen if you’re interested in learning some really cool stuff about this transformation. Very cool stuff. These cocoons live at the Smithsonian in Washington DC.

Jonas the Chicken

This is Jonas – a Speckled Sussex chicken. The building behind her is her chicken coop.

Cat Tail, Cat

Went to one of the wetlands near my house. Managed to capture both a cat’s tail… and a cat.

Birds in Flight

We had some pretty decent late snow storms this winter, and on one of the days, I tried my hand at catching the birds as they flew too and from the bird feeder. I was not as successful as I would have liked! Here are two that weren’t all together bad.

Toad Paws

Here’s another shot from the toad I shared last week. The toad was pretty docile, and put up with me holding it upside for a moment before I let it go.

American Toad

That’s a Buffo americanus for the scientist in you. This one’s from earlier this year. I love the amphibians, especially when they hop across my yard. After taking this one’s photos, I set it free in my vegetable garden.

Lamb

One of the lambs now living at J & F Farms. They sound almost fake when they “baaaaaaaaaah” at you.

Mosquito

These things have become the bane of my existence. They’re pretty bad near my house this year. Anyone have a good idea on how to get rid of them? This image used a technique called focus stacking. I took the photo with a macro lens, and got really close to the mosquito (it was on the […]

Araucana chick

This is Charlie. She’s an Araucana chick, about one week old in this photo. She and her two nest-mates (another Auracana named Pete Mitchell and a Welles Sommer named Ramekin) will stop being cute in another week or two. Time is of the essence! What kind of “cute chick” photos should I be taking? The opportunity […]
