Ebony and Ivory

Side by side in perfect harmony… or something like that.

Okay, I admit it – this photo is a bit of a throw-away… but I’ve been hanging on to these jars full of black and white computer keys forever, and I’m not sure what else to do with them… so it’s time to get rid of them. Quick photo on the way out the door seems appropriate, yes?

First photo from my new photography studio (in other words – the attic, with an extension cord run up to supply power, and a motivated photographer because it was below 40 degrees Fahrenheit (about 4 C).

  1. This image reminded of my old PC and its keyboard whose almost all keys were literally dropping out. When we did not have enough finances, we used to keep the dropped key on the board again and again. Thanks for sharing the wonderful image. I hope you can use them somewhere :-)

  2. Tell me you didn’t throw them away already! With a few BASF tweaks, this can become a total money shot!

  3. Haha, love that song. Neat picture, my friend took some interesting pics of the inside of a computer tower. You might be able to do something artsy with that, and I just collected a bunch of beautiful shells from a beach in North Carolina and have been taking some pics of those. You always do such imaginative, beautiful work I just want to send you random ideas of things to photograph and see what you come up with!

  4. wonder how much crap in my attic is photo-worthy…..

  5. Everything is photo worthy.. But not anyone can see it like the way James and other professional photographers see it. You’re really talented to be able to make such every day items (including the snake) into something “artistic.”

  6. Noooo don’t get rid of them I told you I wanted to do something with them.
P.S: Let’s do the time warp agggaaiiiinnnn

  7. Nice photo! Do you have close up shots? Seems like it’s fun to take shots of the keys. And I hope you also have pictures of your jars – they can make good home or office decors!

  8. Hi James, as expected your caption was so amazing. :) I never thought that these keyboard keys could be used as subject. Great picture!

  9. Great photo again James! Your subject, the computer keys of course, may not look as they are already junked. You really have a photographic eyes! You turn garbage into a wonderful masterpiece. Nice Job!

  10. Now, whose keyboard was destroyed because of this concept? Lol. Very artistic.

  11. Nice collection and I can’t help but feel that it would be such a waste to throw them away. Maybe I just have this problem of letting go of things but I agree with Sam that maybe you can come up with something artistic using them and show us a photo of your creation.

  12. This photo brought me back to the time when I was so mad I smashed my keyboard and the pieces scattered all over the place :) I never thought you could turn it into a very artistic subject lol!

  13. Haha… very innovative understanding of the keyboard, very artistic, though probably much harder to type anything… :)

  14. Who would ever imagine that a pile of old keyboard pieces can be a great subject of photograph! You are brilliant to think of this as a good subject! Congrats!

  15. Very creative. Did you end up destroying a keyboard to take this picture? Nice pic, pity the keyboard…

  16. That keyboard looks really antique. Did you pick it up at the pawn shop?

    Nice shot BTW.

You really have a photographic eyes! Thanks for sharing the wonderful image. Nice photo! I’m still set up for the next shot, all that’s missing is you.

  18. I think you made great use of these old keys, really interesting shot. I love the textures and contrasting colors. I also love the punny title, a different type of ebony and ivory keys! Very clever haha
