Action Frog

Found this cutie on the floor in my kitchen. It had quite a spring in its step, but getting it to jump while I was pushing the shutter release was… challenging. I think I took about 80 photos. This one was the best “action” shot.

At this point, I don’t remember what I had been doing the night before, but I mistakenly left the camera at 3200 ISO. These images were pretty washed out. Thank goodness I was shooting RAW, because otherwise, I don’t know that I would have been able to save them.

I like the details, especially in the last photo, where you can see the sun rising over the trees in the reflection of the eye on the right side of the frame.

  1. I love frogs! Reading your post made me giggle, I can just imagine you taking photos while trying to make it jump and timing it all! Personally, I don’t think I would have the patience to do that, but the first action photo is brilliant and well worth the time and effort :) . The photo with the sun rise showing in the frogs eye is lovely too.

  2. Wow, it’s such a tiny little thing, great action shot though, I don’t think I would have had the patience to take 80 shots, but it was worth it it the end ;)

  3. Patience is a virtue I have yet to master…..

  4. I love the action shot. Well worth the perseverance! Nice work.

  5. # 1 fan says:

“froggy went a courtin’ and he did ride, uh hmmm, uh hmmmm….”
Ron says “looks like this animal was designed to jump”
I have yet to master patience either, Sophie :-/

  6. And with that, # 1 fan has created the one thousandth comment.

So as far as the 80+ shots… one thing I should mention is my camera will take 13 photos in less than three seconds, and a lot of those were me holding the shutter down while I poked at the frog and then pulled my hand away hoping it would jump. :D

I wanted to keep shooting, but the frog was starting to warm up in the bright sun, so I had to go throw it in the wetland so it didn’t get hurt.

  7. I like cartoon frogs but not real live ones as I feel they will pounce at me at any moment. But these are really good shots seeing as I want to sort of step away because it looks ready to pounce!

  8. Very nice image. Your first image of that frog looks awesome and I appreciate your timing in taking that photo when that frog runs over that piece of cloth

Thank you from me and little Mary !

  10. Great! Just no words!

  11. 80 shots! And man, you must be an early riser. Of course, for one who appreciates beauty in all forms, the sunrise is just one thing you must not miss enjoying. Is that shadow of the jumping frog caused by sunlight or some other lighting?

  12. This just shows you have to have an eye for detail if you’re going to succeed in photography. I love the action show of the frog (I have no idea how you can touch those, by the way) and I wasn’t massively impressed by the last shot until you pointed out the reflection in the frog’s eye. It then became one of the most incredible images I’ve seen in a long time, to see something so beautiful in the eye of something considered so ugly.
