No, really, I’d like a slice.

Red velvet cake, as interpreted by Costco, in this photo. The cake was so pretty, and I took a bunch of photos, but wasn’t totally pleased with any of them. This was the best of the bunch… and the cake was delicious.

Happy birthday, Sheila – thanks for leading the way. I’m right behind you… with my “over two decades” in contact centers.

The real tragedy here is the Bodega Elena de Mendoza that is spilled on the table… it’s such a delicious red wine, and it’s nearly impossible to find in New Hampshire. I got this bottle for about $10 US, and it’s an incredible bargain at that price. If you enjoy red wine, I highly recommend it.

Just a few days ago, I was mocking this maple tree because it was showing so much red in the summer time.

Today, this bit of glorious foliage makes more sense…

It’s amazing what a week makes. I drive on I95 most days, and the stretch through New Hampshire has come alive with red, orange, and yellow. It’s not prime foliage season; not yet, at least. Still, trees are starting to make the turn. The world is starting to turn its gaze away from summer.

She threw snow a long way last year until the last storm… when I accidentally ran the engine without oil in it. A plug came loose, the oil drained, and the engine seized.
Quantaray close-up filters, aperture, ISO, and shutter speed all interplay to create a pretty cool close-up picture.

Even if it is just Twizzler's candy.
Quantaray close-up filters and Twizzlers is brought to you by j.ronald.lee - photography / journal

This photo of Twizzler’s licorice candy is a bit of an experiment for me. It was taken at F22, which means that the shutter opening was very small, letting in very little light. It was a low light situation anyways, so I had to keep the shutter open for 20 seconds at ISO 200.

It was taken with an x2 Quantaray close-up filter on the lens, allowing me to get much closer to the licorice than I would have been able to otherwise… which is a poor-man’s macro lens solution. The problem with this method is you usually end up with an incredibly shallow depth of field. By shrinking the aperture to it’s minimum setting, that lengthens the depth of field, allowing the licorice on the top of the pile to be just as in focus as the licorice you can see towards the bottom.

I like the Quantaray filters, as they have given me some exceptional shots, such as these:

A common feature in these images, however, is that the depth of focus is very narrow.

I’m happy with the twizzler pic – what do you think?

2 AM.

Kid can’t sleep.

After waking me up for about the 8th time with, “I can’t sleep,” we went downstairs to talk, and noticed how the humming bird feeder glowed with the light coming through the kitchen window. It made for a very pretty night light, and we had a nice conversation about ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. We got out the tripod, and this was the best of our attempts, a 4 second exposure at f/5.6 and 1600 ISO.
