This image is available for sale on Getty Images.

This image got a lot of buzz on Flickr when I posted it, which was fun. It’s been viewed over 1,200 times as of this writing, which for me, is a lot. Before this, I think my most viewed photo was a throw-away shot of some red Tretorn boots, which I don’t really care for, but has been used on more blogs than I can keep track of.

This is a gray tree frog, or hyla versicolor. Beautiful yellow on the inside of its legs (you can just see a bit on its left back leg in this photo). Lovely fingers – made for climbing, not swimming. When I moved my hand around it would simply climb back to where it was perching instead of hanging beneath my finger. It was quite the mellow frog. Maybe most fun was being able to feel each of its finger tips as it gripped me. I released it next to a birch tree where it completely disappeared without moving. Lovely camouflage, even its eyes blend in to its surroundings. I’ve never seen one before, but this one had wandered onto a blue tarp, making it very easy for Claire to spot.

There’s a wonderful retailer out there on the internet. It’s called Sock Dreams. Niq, Bsti, and the crew over at Sock Dreams all do a great job of servicing their customers. You can tell they actually love socks. Whether it’s their amazing selection or their excellent customer service, they are at the top of their game in Internet based retail.

I’m lucky in that my wife has devastatingly long legs, likes knee socks, and even will wear them to work. That, and she’ll pose with me for the monthly scavenger hunt clue “couch couples.”

Took this photo back on Sunday, and have been dying to share it ever since.

You need pork and beef. We got a cheap shoulder and some cheap beef. You’re going to grind it, right? Skip the expensive meat for this one…

You’ll want approximately equal amounts of pork and beef. For every pound of meat you have, add 1.5 t fresh ground pepper, 1 t salt, 3/4 t sugar, 1/2 t dry mustard, 1/2 t ground mace, 1/2 t dried, crushed marjoram, 1/2 t ground nutmeg, and 1 or 2 cloves garlic, minced finely. Put the meat through a meat grinder with the course attachment, and mix in all ingredients.

After mixing in the ingredients, grind it all again.

From there you can stuff it into casings, but we just made it into bratwurst burgers. This was the best bratwurst I’ve ever had in my entire life… inexpensive to make, and probably a LOT healthier than your usual offering (way less fat).

Enjoy!

Okay – I’m up early most Saturdays… at least, for a non-work day. Today I woke up at 2 (the first time), and after several attempts at getting back to sleep, crawled out of bed around 6. I was thus able to get a nice shot of the sun shining on some ice crystals on the window this morning.
