Chester pound

Chester pound

November 25, 2009

In the early 1800s, the townspeople constructed this pound, into which stray animals were placed until the owner paid a fine to the town. This pound was constructed in 1806, and looks pretty good for being 203 years old.

I needed a picture for the Chester, New Hampshire Flickr group, and thought Soldier’s Monument would be a good one. There’s a fantastic write up of the monument’s history available at Archive.org; if you have any interest in this monument, I highly recommend it.

The girls and I went stumping in the woods today, and I was playing with a new point-n-shoot I picked up from Ritz (less than $80 – what a deal!). Most of the shots show that I had never used the camera before, but I think this is a nice macro shot.
