Umbrella

Umbrella

If you’re in the northern hemisphere like me, you’re less than two weeks from summer. Took this photo of a rainbow umbrella at a local ice cream stand.

Wow! This is REALLY cool! Enlarging the photo makes a complete difference and these colors are so vibrant!! The colors even reflected onto the pole and gives it a sheer look. Very cool.

  2. Dani @ BJJ Santa Monica says:

This reminds me of my bedroom and all of my colored belts from my martial arts years. Great picture with the different colors. They really came alive here.

  3. We’re in our summer, but global warming is not helping us out. Weather has been really weird and even rained the other day. This is a lovely picture!

    • James Lee says:

Yeah, it’s been a cold summer here, too. I guess that’s why the scientists are no longer calling it global warming, but instead “Climate Change.” I don’t understand why people don’t believe it’s real. I guess in another ten or twenty years, there will be too much proof to ignore.

  4. Jane Cooper @ lcd tv says:

I’ve got three things to say, colours, colours and COLOURS!!! Realy simple and beautiful pic : )

  5. Klaus says:

Great colors! This is one of those times where a black & white conversion just wouldn’t work as well as the colored version :)

Yes, summer is around the corner which means less photowalks because it’s just too hot outside!!

  6. This is a beautiful picture. Reminds me of my wife’s beach umbrella. Looks like the sun hit the colors just right for your camera. Thanks for sharing.

  7. cameron @ sell used books says:

This is awesome love the vibrant colors. James have you ever considered selling these to a stock photography agency like Getty?

  8. Kim says:

Another beautiful photo, I wouldn’t mind having an umbrella like that as a parasol in my garden! It would make me happy everytime I look at it AND it would help keep my icecreams and coctails cool ;) Ah, summer is here! :)

  9. I like how the colors reflected back onto the pole and gives it a hologram look. My mother has an umbrella like this, but the colors definitely do not look that bright. I think it needs a good mildew clean up.

  10. Leah @ Walking Tours Rome says:

What a fun picture! You caught this while waiting for your popsicle, huh? ;) I love how the color turned out. What were your settings at?

    • James Lee says:

Settings were all wrong… ISO 1250 and f/2.8 meant a super-fast shutter speed at 1/3200.

I thought I had adjusted the aperture to f/8, which is why I jumped the ISO so high. Oops… still, the photo turned out pretty good, I think.

  11. Who would have known that an ice cream stand would have created this photo opp. Did you prepare for this or did you go back and get your camera?

  12. hehe, nice! the reflection makes it so wonderful. the colors are vibrant.

  13. micky says:

    Nice shot.
    Simple and stylish!

  14. Colors came out great. Reminds me of my rainbow beach towel. The colors don’t look as bright as they used to though :( Nice job.

  15. Becca @ Robotic Palletizers says:

That’s one fancy umbrella for an ice cream stand. It’s been a while since I’ve seen one around, besides those from Disneyland, but they’ve all been simple cream or solid colored umbrellas. Loving the colors!

  16. James Lee says:

We celebrate summer in New England as if we only have a very short time to do it. ;-)

  17. Dr. George Suarez @ hifu clinical trials says:

Amazing. I never thought that a simple umbrella could make a beautiful photo. This reminds me that simplicity is beauty. Keep up the good work.

  18. Karen @ SEO Los Angeles says:

Very festive. Reminds me of a fair. Very nostalgic picture for me.
