Perigee Moon

perigee moon

Last night, if the skies were clear, you might have seen the largest appearing full moon in twenty years. The moon’s orbit is not circular, and this was the closest a full moon has been to the earth since 1993. It won’t happen again until 2029. I took these with the Nikkor 70-300 kit lens. I’m pretty happy with these results.

  1. Wow! Unfortunately, the sky was cloudy and I wasn’t able to see the Moon. Now I understood how much I missed! Cool image!

  2. I so wanted to see the moon. However where I am in Sacramento it was totally cloudy. At least you got to see it.

  3. Jane Cooper says:

Fortunatelly i have possibility to see full Moon because sky was clear, it was great to see it especially that i was with my friends and we were not so much sober ; )

  4. That’s a great picture! I never had the chance to see the moon that night as it was very cloudy in my town. Still can’t believe there were so many people afraid that something bad would happen when the moon got so close to the Earth. Cheers from France!

  5. Wow, it’s such a haunting looking moon and the image behind the branches is like something from a horror movie, really cool though πŸ˜‰

  6. These are phenomenal. Living in Los Angeles, where you think it would be sunny, was actually cloudy and rainy that night. It was really disappointing not being able to see it. So, these are a close comparison πŸ™‚

  7. James Moralde says:

Wow, you shot one too, eh? I also posted my perigee moon on my blog. It’s also my very first full moon shot. I like it in that it also is my very first supermoon shot. πŸ™‚

  8. It would have been even better if it was one of the “blood moons” wouldn’t you say? It was cloudy here; it’s a shame, too. You always want to say that you saw that “one thing” that isn’t supposed to happen again.

  9. Bernadette says:

Was so lucky that the sky was clear to see the perigee moon as it ‘went down’ in the early mornings – an amazing sight!

  10. Wow those are great shots. I was so mad I went out of town and didn’t have my camera.

  11. I remember hearing about this. Is this what they called the “Super Moon”? I also live in LA and wasn’t able to see the effect of the moon, but hopefully I can witness it LIVE in about 18 years… boo. Thanks for sharing your photo. You always have great photos!

  12. Liewilyn Baynosa says:

That one is a hard to get :d…. I’m can’t capture the moon like that… But I’ll gonna try again soon.

  13. Gorgeous!! I missed this one, so I hope I’m still around and able to see in 2029 to catch the next one. πŸ˜‰

  14. These look amazing. It was a full moon the other night and I always want to take pictures of it when it’s full, or when it looks orange or some other strange color. Unfortunately I don’t have the right type of camera, but I wish I did. You can’t convey the beauty of the moon unless you have a camera and lens like yours…and talent like yours. πŸ™‚

  15. Tisa Bitler says:

I usually don’t see moments like this. I always miss the moon on its full size for some reasons..
But they looked awesome I admit…
