Pomegranate Citrus Martini

fireside martini

Here’s a timely weekend post. With a few cool days, we had opportunity to start a fire.

Here’s a cocktail recipe I came up with on the spot. I doubt it’s original, but it sure was tasty!

Equal parts pomegranate schnapps, grapefruit vodka, and orange juice in a shaker over ice. A splash of simple syrup to balance the acidity of the citrus and bitterness of the pomegranate. Shake, and pour into a chilled martini glass.

You’re on your own for the fireplace.

Enjoy!

  1. The way the picture is tilted feels like a preview of what you’d feel when you drink too much of this beauty. :)

I’ll echo James on this one. I also thank you very much for the recipe, though I do need to come up with the pomegranate schnapps.

I’m sure I can find the answer in your blog James but I just don’t have the time, so if you don’t mind my asking what camera are you using?

That’s a great shot too, did you use a filter to get that hue?

Sire, I read you’re considering a DSLR, and know what an adventure that selection process can be. So many options…

I’m using a Nikon D90; this shot was taken with the best piece of glass for under $150 US: The NIKKOR 50mm 1.8D (retails around $130 here). No filter. The only editing I did on this was rotate the shot ever so slightly. This was a pretty low light shot, and these colors are true to the room.

If I were to offer you any advice, it would be to hold the different brands in your hand, take some shots, and see what feels best in your hands. There are a lot of die hard Nikon or Canon shooters, but I’m not one of them; either will do. For me, I knew I wanted to learn to use the different manual controls, so the D90 was a natural choice. Anything less (cost wise) wouldn’t have all the dedicated controls on the camera, and the D90 makes it easy to adjust white balance, exposure, ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and light metering very quickly. Well, it’s quick for other people who know what they’re doing! Kidding aside, the controls of the D5000, the next model down in price, were insufficient for me, because I would have to push several buttons to get to where I wanted to be instantly on the D90.
