Maple bokeh

maple bokeh

Short on time, so I’m just grabbing a recent photo and throwing it up. Still really enjoying the new 50mm lens. This is the only image I’ve taken that really shows it’s a seven blade shutter.

  1. Incredible bokeh! I would like to see a portrait with same settings and specifications deployed. The reason I still use my 50mm prime for portraits is just because of the amazing bokeh they create. James please click a portrait. I cant wait to see it.

  2. Picture post card pretty. Especially like the little droplets of water….

This picture brings up other images in mind. Perhaps, if you walk a bit further, there’s a wet and dewy spider web somewhere. Wow, that would be another great shot James.

  4. @Alan – I suppose there is a considerable lack of portraiture on this blog so far. Since you’re comment, I’ve been watching for similar lighting conditions, but it has been all rainy. Give me some time, I’ll do it.

    @#1 – Thanks! 🙂

@James – you’re completely right (and you can see a single spider web strand here). I was rushed, it was a work day and I had to go, but I do need to spend a few extra minutes looking around. Good advice!

  5. The bokeh has a really good look to it, which 50mm is it, f1.4? Sigma? Canon?

I’m thinking of getting one for my wedding photography but would like to know which to get.

    Cool shots, thanks 🙂

  6. It’s a Nikkor 50mm 1.8D.

Really, you can’t go wrong with any of the 50mm primes, from what I’ve read. For me, the 1.8D v. 1.4G was a simple choice. I would prefer the 1.4G, but for $200, I can live with the 1.8. If I decide to upgrade in the future, I can sell this lens if I’ve taken good care of it (and I have). Really, I don’t see myself shooting in the 1.4 range, but I would like the extra blades on the shutter.

  7. I would lay dishonest praise…there is something wrong with this picture…

  8. I read in here more courteous criticism that will help you become a better photographer…you keep on taking pics like this and I dont think anyone can say anything bad because that picture looks great.

  9. Thanks, Larry!

  10. Thats beautiful, really lovely shot.
